Describe the problem that you want to address. How does this problem effect people in their daily lives?

Our proposal to this Challenge entails the creation of a website that aims to contribute to solving the socio-economic problems of youth in the Famagusta region. This website will be a user-friendly platform where youth can promote their resources to share with visitors of the city as if the whole city is one big house with rooms and kitchen spaces to share. Youth can register and promote their free ‘rooms’ tab on the website, which can be booked by visitors looking for cheap accommodation. They can also register and promote their culinary skills under ‘kitchen’ tab on the website, which can also be booked by visitors who wish to experience culinary culture of the city in a more social environment. Through this use of technology, we will facilitate utilization of used/unused spaces such as rooms and kitchens through bringing together local community and visitors. This website views and portrays the city of Famagusta as one big house to be shared with its visitors. Through the utilization of the space such as rooms as affordable accommodation spaces and utilization of the space such as kitchens in the houses as social eating/gathering spaces, this website gives the young people an opportunity to earn a living with their own resources such as a spare bed and a small kitchen and their hospitality skills.

Describe your proposed solution – How does your approach build on or add to more traditional ways of dealing with problem?

Our product gives mobility, freedom and connectivity to youth to utilize their own resources by creating peer to peer accommodation and face-to-face connection with visitors who visit Famagusta. This website will allow for not a  top downs but a grassroots up transformation in how youth view their unutilized resources and skills. Thus, this gives the opportunity to unemployed youth to contribute to social and economic life and socialize both amongst themselves and with visitors while they also earn a living. As this website catches on, the youth will rise in economic power and social life.

Which technologies are you planning to use and why? Please make reference to other similar uses of your proposed technology.

The website to be created will use technology in a clever way that brings together the visitors that are seeking a more personal contact with the locals such as Famagusta youth. This website will employ digital marketing and social media technologies to promote the website for the use of visitors. It also creates freedom to use their resources and skills in Famagusta youth.
